It is remarkable how a good thing can last for so long. They were only going to do it until 'next year' in the beginning 50 years ago and the core committee of the flower team, led by Sheila Amos are still at the helm with the 51st festival already on the calendar for 2013. It is a wonderful achievement and each festival has an ever greater vibrancy of colour, imagination and creative original detail. In this year of the celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics being held in Britain for the first time since 1948 our festival will be very much part of the years celebrations.
A tremendous thank you to everyone who has contributed to the strength and versatility of the St. Mary's Flower Festival over the years.
We celebrate our faith this Eastertide with the first disciples who were writing about Our Lord only 30 years after his resurrection from the dead.
The first disciples had experience, memories and faith to found the church. May we, whose faith is deepened by the disciples memories of the risen Christ celebrate with the Holy Spirit as we rejoice in 50 golden years of the festival.
