Sweete
Harmonie is the new name for our singing group, which was formed in 1998 for
Rainham Village May Fair, and known as Ye Essex Baebes. The ensemble
has since developed into a group of highly proficient female singers and
performers – both young and more mature – led by Musical Director Nikki
Randell.
Nikki
trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has had a long and
varied career as a professional singer/songwriter and singing teacher.
Sweete
Harmonie have an authentic, but lively approach to early music, performing
songs from 1300 to the early 1600s. Some are sung “a capella”,
using just vocal harmony, for example madrigals, motets and early part
songs. Some are accompanied by period instruments, such as rebec
(violin), gittern (lute) and varied percussion.
A
performance by Sweete Harmonie will complement events at historic houses and
gardens, weddings, banquets, historical re-enactments, concerts and
festivals. During the past two years we have performed at the
Stortford Music Festival, Mediaeval Mayhem at Cressing Temple,
Groombridge Place, Ingatestone Hall, Eastbury Manor, Sutton House, Queen
Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge,Hatfield Forest Woodfest, as well as at various
fairs and festivals. We have entertained Christmas
shoppers in Trafalgar Square and a t Bluewater.
During the 2008 season our usual fee will be £55 for a
half hour set. A lower rate may be negotiated for longer bookings and
charity events.
A
new CD is currently in production.
