Spalding Grammar School Rhythm and Blues Band

The Spalding Grammar School Rhythm and Blues Band was founded by Anthony Baldery in 2004 and gave its debut concert on 22nd March 2004 at St John’s Church in Spalding.  The band developed out of the school’s Jazz band which was founded by Anthony in 2002.  It was decided to re-brand the group in homage to the great Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and develop a wider range of repertoire than just Jazz.  The band has performed at many school events and two years ago played at Grimsthorpe Castle as part of a St Barnabas Hospice fund raising weekend.

The music department  at Spalding Grammar School has two full time music teachers and boasts many musical ensembles including the chamber choir who performed in Berlin last Summer, Early music group, brass ensemble, String quintet and Rhythm and Blues band.  Music is certainly a strength of the school and attracts music students from many surrounding schools.
